The map editor
Make a map from a seed or a blank field: the tools and their keys, the checks, saving and testing it.
Opening it
- From the Maps page (Map editor, or a map’s Copy in the editor / Open in the editor), or editor.html.
- New asks for a size (Small, 70 × 70; Medium, 100 × 100) and a base: a seed, to start from its map, or blank, grass everywhere.
- A map keeps only what you changed over its base, and the generator it was made with: a later generator never moves your land.
The tools
| B | Terrain | Grass, dirt, water, deep water or forest; the eraser gives the base back. Brush 1–9 ([ ]), or fill. |
|---|---|---|
| R | River | Drag a reach of river, 1–3 cells wide. |
| F | Ford | Land across water, walked at full speed. |
| G | Gold mine | Lay or remove a mine. Every mine pays the same and never runs dry. |
| C | Castles | Drag a castle: it takes a dirt yard where it lands, away from the edge and from the other castle. |
| P | Provinces | Drag a province’s point, click to split one off, right-click to merge it away; spacing 10–30, and Scatter again. |
| S | Sheep | Decor that plays nothing. |
| T | Wilds | The wilds’ lairs (Lairs on a map). |
| H | Move view | Drag the view; right or middle drag, the arrows and the wheel work with any tool. |
| L | Grid | Show or hide the cells. |
Undo and redo keep every step, with the usual shortcuts.
The map panel
- Mirror (on at first): every edit is made on the other half too, so the map stays point-symmetric and fair.
- The opening host by each castle: small (8 units: 4 Warriors, 2 Lancers, 2 Archers); standard (14 units: 6 Warriors, 4 Lancers, 4 Archers); large (21 units: 9 Warriors, 6 Lancers, 6 Archers). The game’s own maps open with the standard one.
- Time of year: Auto or one of the twelve.
- Its name (up to 40 letters), and Reset to the base.
The checks
The checks panel says what stops the map from being played (a problem) and what only looks wrong (a warning).
- Problems: a castle on water, out of its own province or without clear ground in its yard; fewer than 1 gold mine near a castle; a province with no land; deep water cutting off a castle, a mine or a province; provinces or mines out of bounds (Small: 4–48 provinces, 4–24 mines; Medium: 4–72 provinces, 4–36 mines); trees over 50 % of the map; a lair out of place.
- Warnings: a fairness under 80 out of 100 (100 when both halves are the same; less as they differ in land, mines, provinces and the walk to the middle), and lairs that differ between the halves.
- A map may hold at most 48 added mines, 160 province points, 24 sheep and 8 lairs.
Saving and testing
- A guest’s maps are drafts kept in this browser (up to 30). Signed in, maps are saved to your account (up to 50); To my account moves a draft there.
- Export and Import a map as a file.
- Signed in, a playable map’s Play panel saves it and offers Test vs Bot-Easy, Normal or Hard, or a private match on this map with a friend.
- To share it with everyone: publish it.
