Monk
The healer: it never fights, mends the wounded in reach first, and keeps out of the enemy’s reach.
The monk heals 5 hit points every 1.75 s (2.86 a second) to the most wounded friend within 50, itself included; with nobody hurt that close, it walks to a wounded friend up to 260 away. It never strikes. Trained at the Monastery, from Level 2 · Full war.
How it keeps safe
- It runs from an enemy that comes within that enemy’s reach and 24 more, and from an archer that aims at it, toward its own soldiers. A heal under way is cut short: its hit points have already landed.
- It never steps into an enemy’s reach, to heal or to follow.
- On an Engage or Conquer march (a path, a belt) it never walks ahead of its nearest soldier: it stays 32 farther from the enemy than that soldier, and waits for the line to move.
- With nobody to heal it follows its nearest soldier, behind it. A monk you stopped somewhere follows only soldiers within 200 of that place, and walks back to it.
- On a Move order it only walks: no heals, no running.
- It takes no focus: marking an enemy with monks in hand sends only the fighters.
Its enemy: the spy
Troops ignore a spy, but a spy hunts a monk that walks alone. Keep monks with the host.
How to use it
- A few monks behind a line that holds keep it standing far longer.
- Its upkeep (2 gold/min) is the highest of any unit: a monk with nothing to heal is gold lost.
