Belts

Your main order: a line on the map that troops board and ride to the front.

A belt is an order that stays on the map. Idle troops near it board it and ride it; new recruits keep joining it. Reshape it while the battle runs and the whole front follows.

Belts in motion

  1. Draw a belt. Right-drag with nothing selected: a belt from your troops toward the war.
  2. Troops board it. Idle troops near the mouth board the belt and ride it; recruits keep joining. The banner counts the riders.
  3. Conquer. Gold is Conquer (A): riders wait in each province that is not yours until it turns, then ride on.
  4. Filter the riders. Click the banner to pick the belt. Z turns every role off, 3 lets archers on, 1 warriors too: lancers stay put.
  5. Lanes. E: one, two, three lanes. The riders step off and board again, side by side.
  6. Modes. S Move: march, no fighting, at 115 % of their speed (95 % in the other modes). D Engage: fight what is in reach. A back to Conquer.
  7. Reshape it. Drag a knot to bow the rope, the exit to stretch or shorten it, the mouth to move it all. Riders follow the new line.
  8. Let go, or remove. Space lets go of the belt. Picked, Del removes it: its riders stand where they are.

Mode, lanes and filter

With belts selected, these keys change them; with none selected they set up the next belt drawn. The command bar (F1, bottom left) shows the same and its buttons act as the keys.

Belt settings
AConquer: riders fight what they meet and stop in every province on the way that is not yours until it turns, then ride on.
SMove: riders only march, no fighting, at 115 % of their speed (Conquer and Engage march at 95 %).
DEngage: riders stop to fight an enemy in reach, then ride on.
ELanes: 1 → 2 → 3, how wide the column rides.
Alt + 1–5Unit filter: which roles board it (warriors, lancers, archers, monks, spies).

Tip: Keep a Conquer belt to the empty provinces and an Engage belt toward the rival: the recruits sort themselves.
