What's new
Tiny Swords Wars · every release of the game, newest first
Each new version reaches the game online by itself: reload the page to play it. Your version is on the small plank in the corner of the menus.
Version 0.58.0
- Spies hide and sabotage. A spy is hidden from the rival until a soldier, monk, spy or tower comes close, or until it strikes; once seen, it runs home by the safest way. Send one at a rival building to sabotage it: stop a mine, stall training, set a building on fire (your own troops standing by put it out) or steal gold, which counts once the spy is back on your land. Bot-Normal and Bot-Hard sabotage too.
- Smarter monks. A monk heals the nearest wounded first, keeps behind its escort, and runs from a foe that comes for it.
- Spies take land more slowly where they stand alone, and the bots' spies spread less quickly.
Version 0.57.0
-
Every wiki article has its own address. The wiki's pages now open at addresses like
/wiki/units/archer, so they can be shared, bookmarked and found by search engines. Old links still open the right article, and moving between articles no longer reloads the page. - Links shared from the game show a picture and a short description.
Version 0.56.0
- Choose how far behind live runs. Live matches are now 30 seconds, 1, 3, 5 or 10 minutes behind, 3 by default. In a match each player sets it in To Arms! or the War Tent, and the longer choice plays; in a cup the organiser picks it. The LIVE screen and the spectator's view say each match's delay.
- The main menu puts PLAY and LIVE side by side; LIVE turns red, its light beating, while matches are live.
- The islands on the menus no longer flash a white frame while they load.
Version 0.55.0
- Go live in any match. Quick, private and bot matches can now be watched live too: switch Go live on in the To Arms! muster, and when both players do, the match shows on the LIVE screen for everyone, two minutes behind. STOP LIVE in the War Tent ends the stream at once.
- See the whole map. You can zoom out much farther in a match, far enough to see a whole Medium map on a wide screen, and the land and forests draw faster at every zoom.
Version 0.54.0
- The leaderboard is your choice. A new account no longer joins the public leaderboard by itself: when you pick your name, tick "Show me on the public leaderboard" to appear there. Accounts made before keep their setting, which Settings still changes. Quick matches are rated only between two listed players.
- The privacy policy is now in Spanish too, and says more about what Cloudflare sees and how long sign-in records are kept.
Version 0.53.0
- Live cup matches ask first. Joining a cup now asks whether you accept that your matches may be watched live; you may accept later on the cup's page, and take it back there in one click with "Stop showing my matches live". The organiser can turn live on only once every player has accepted, and off at any time.
- When making a cup, "Listed on the LIVE screen" and "Live for spectators" now switch together.
- The privacy policy names Cloudflare's security check and its cookies, and says live viewing rests on your consent.
Version 0.52.0
- LIVE on the main menu. A new tile lists the cup matches being played right now that you may watch: those of cups listed for everyone, and, signed in, those of your own cups that you are not playing. An organiser lists a cup with its new setting, Listed on the LIVE screen.
- When a published map of yours is hidden, the editor now tells you why, beside the version, and how to ask a person to look again.
- The privacy policy says how long the server's logs are kept and how your data is kept safe.
Version 0.51.0
- Watch cup matches live. WATCH LIVE beside a match being played, on the cup's page and in the War Council's cup card, opens the battlefield two minutes behind: both sides' armies, the fog of either side or none, a timeline with its battles and cannon shots to jump to, and a Director camera that follows the fighting. The players see how many watch. An organiser may turn it off when making the cup.
- Terms of service. The game now has its terms, beside the privacy policy on the version card: the rules of conduct, what publishing a map allows others, and how reports and moderation work. Signing in accepts them, and asks you to be 16 or over; younger players play as guests.
- The privacy policy now names who runs the game, the legal ground for each use of your data, the decisions the game takes on its own, and what spectators see.
- Player names pass the same word filter as maps and cups.
- The game's fonts now come from our own site, not from Google: nothing of yours reaches a third party when a page loads.
- Search engines no longer list a player's page; the leaderboard and the Maps page stay listed.
Version 0.50.1
- Tablets: every menu now fits, held sideways or upright. Game Over, the War Tent, the Chronicle and the name dialog scroll when they are taller than the screen, the main menu shows its tiles in two rows, and the cup card no longer disappears from the War Council.
Version 0.50.0
- Cups: bots in the empty seats. An organiser may fill a cup's empty seats with a bot (Easy, Normal or Hard) instead of byes; a league with an odd number of players takes one, so nobody rests. A bot always comes to its match: press PLAY and fight it on the cup's map.
- The wiki is clearer on many small points: speed in forests, Move against Conquer and Engage, who takes a province, pawns, leaving a match and the opening hosts.
Version 0.49.2
- Cup map votes: when the map is drawn by lot, both players now watch the draw, a light hopping over the maps until it lands. The map that plays then stays on screen a little longer, larger, before the muster.
Version 0.49.1
- Fixed: the second player into a cup match with a map vote no longer stays stuck on "Connecting…".
Version 0.49.0
- Cups: a map vote. An organiser may offer a pool of maps instead of one. When both players of a match sit down, they strike maps in secret, then each picks one of those left: the same pick plays, two picks are drawn by lot. The map holds for the whole series.
- The game and the wiki now call you a player or a ruler, never a lord.
Version 0.48.1
- The wiki is set right on gold mines (every mine pays the same and never runs dry), the Wilds, which matches are rated or kept, and the Pirate Cannon. The map editor and the Maps page no longer show a gold amount on mines.
Version 0.48.0
- Seed maps count. A quick match on a seed's map now counts for the leaderboard, whether the game drew it or its host picked it. Only a map a player made and picked stays unrated.
- The wiki grows. New Leaderboard and Maps sections: how points move, seasons and medals, every fair play rule, the Maps page, the map editor, publishing and lairs on a map.
- Keyboard friendly. Every screen opens with a button ready for Enter, Tab stays inside the window on top, and Esc closes things one at a time. On Game Over, Esc first points at MAIN MENU; a second Esc leaves.
- The main menu scrolls on tablets, so its last row is always within reach.
Version 0.47.0
- Builders stay to mine. When a house is finished, its builders go straight to its gold mine as its first miners instead of walking home, so a new house starts paying sooner.
Version 0.46.0
- Sieges. An idle army fights the enemy's soldiers first, then tears down the nearest building it sees, the castle too: mark a building to choose which falls first. Pawns no longer draw your fighters away; they are struck only within reach. A castle under attack calls its miners inside, and they go back to work once it is calm.
- My matches is now a grid of cards, each with its map's picture, both players and the result; open one for the details and the replay. It moves to the last tab of the Chronicle.
- The menus are quiet now: the only music is the battle's own.
Version 0.45.0
- Control groups. Ctrl + 1–9 keeps your units, belts or buildings as a group; 1–9 takes it back, twice looks there. A strip of buttons shows your groups, by touch too. The unit filter moves to Alt + 1–5.
- More varied maps. Thirty starter maps, each with its own layout: the castles face each other across, up, down or along a diagonal, with more or less water and forest. Quick matches and bots draw one, never the same twice in a row.
- A real fog of war. You now receive only what your side sees: the rival's gold, buildings, mines and capture bars stay hidden. An enemy building you lose sight of stays on your map as you last saw it.
- Cup matches: agree a time for each match with your rival, on the cup's page.
- The bots no longer keep rebuilding a house where your army stands, so they grow their army again.
- Your first win: a new wiki article, with an animation, walks you through beating Bot-Easy. And this page, What's new, is behind the version card.
Version 0.44.0
- Build in the forest. You may now lay a building over trees: your builders chop them down first, one by one, then raise it. The trees are gone for good, so you can clear your way through a wood.
Version 0.43.1
- Picking a belt brings up the command bar, so its lane keys are right at hand.
Version 0.43.0
- Builders. Pawns now walk out of your castle to raise every new building, and it only grows while they hammer. Fallen builders are replaced, but not while your castle is under attack.
- The muster's buttons are laid out more clearly.
Version 0.42.0
- Play a bot on the map you choose, and see the map's picture before you start.
- Quick Match shows its map. You join the first waiting player on their map, or open a game on a map you pick (a picked map is not rated).
- Creating a private match goes step by step: the rules, the map, the options (the Wilds, the time of year), then the code.
- The goblin band now comes out of its cave when it wakes.
- The folk on the menu's island go about their day: drilling, shooting, building, fetching gold.
- A castle under attack no longer sends pawns out into danger.
- Sight and the Pirate Cannon's reach are now true circles on the ground (their rings only look flattened).
- A selected archer's range ring also shows how close it lets an enemy come before stepping back.
Version 0.41.0
- Music made for each battle. Every match has its own medieval theme, played by hurdy-gurdy, shawm, lute and drums, and it changes with what you see: expansion, a skirmish, a siege, the defence of your castle. Both players hear the same theme.
- Economy: a province now pays 10 gold a minute (it was 30) and a worked gold mine 100 (it was 60). Mines matter much more.
- A slain monster's gold falls on the field, and the notice says how much you took.
- The match panel (top left) is a sheet of paper with your last three notices: click one to look there. The controls hide behind its info mark.
- Fallen soldiers lie flat on the ground.
Version 0.40.1
- Your troops shout "Move!" and "Fight!" only when you insist (several orders in a row), and "Move!" is softer.
Version 0.40.0
- The countdown before a battle beats on war drums, with a shockwave on each number and a flash on Fight!
- Map editor: a deep water brush. Nobody can walk through it, and whoever is thrown in drowns.
Version 0.39.0
- The version plank is on every screen and page, with the wiki, privacy and credits behind it.
Version 0.38.0
- The Maps, Tournaments and Leaderboard screens are tidier: filters in their own dialog, the same buttons everywhere.
Version 0.37.0
- Hits you can feel. Blows flash and punch, freeze for a heartbeat, throw sparks, shake the screen and sound. Walls flash, shudder and shed chips, and your castle shakes the screen when it is struck.
- Damage numbers pop sharper, sized by the blow.
- Settings: a Screen shake slider (and Particles turns the sparks off).
Version 0.36.1
- The Command and Build tabs (F1 / F2) sit one over the other in the bottom-left corner, and the build bar shows its prices.
- The charts button moves to the battlefield's top-right corner.
Version 0.36.0
- Pirate Cannon reworked: 1000 gold, up to 3 per side, and the tower now stays and reloads between shots.
- Tournaments run themselves: if your rival never comes before a match's deadline and you pressed PLAY, the match is yours.
- Fixed: after a rematch, the last match's belts no longer linger on screen.
- TOURNAMENTS wears two crossed swords in the main menu, and Settings scrolls properly on a tablet.
Version 0.35.0
- Tournaments: player cards, a notice board for the players, a gold sword for the champion, and a league table that fits a phone.
Version 0.34.0
- Messages pop up as small toasts, including your cup's news.
Version 0.33.1
- A cup's page keeps itself up to date while you look at it.
Version 0.33.0
- Sign in with your email: we send you a code, no Google account needed.
Version 0.32.0
- Tournaments. Run a cup among friends: a knockout for 4, 8 or 16 players, or a league where everyone meets everyone, with a map for each round.
Version 0.31.0
- The War Council lobby is simpler: every way into a match opens in its panel, with Cancel always at hand, and a PLAY A BOT button.
- A bot of each difficulty is always waiting for you; the lobby says when every bot is busy.
Version 0.30.1
- A new title lettering, easier to read.
Version 0.30.0
- The game has its name: Tiny Swords Wars, with its own website, tinyswordswars.com.
Version 0.29.0
- Harpoon Sharks now hunt as a pod of six round each water lair.
Version 0.28.0
- The time of year. Every match has a season among twelve, from spring blossom to winter snow, with mushrooms, pumpkins, rocks in the river… and, once in a while, a rubber duck. It is only scenery: the rules never change.
- Map authors and private match creators may pick the season; replays and map pictures wear it.
Version 0.27.0
- The wiki shows how to command units, build and train, and fire the Pirate Cannon, as little animations.
Version 0.26.0
- The Wilds. Turn them on and monsters sleep in lairs across the map: a Root Troll in the deep forest, a band of Torch Goblins at a forest's edge, Harpoon Sharks in the water. Come near and they wake, fight, and pay a bounty to whoever slays them. Matches with the Wilds are not rated.
- Bots hunt the lairs too; map authors can place lairs and set the minute they wake.
- The wiki explains belts with an animation.
Version 0.25.0
- The wiki: every unit, building, number and rule of the game, on a page of its own.
- Fairer fights: neither side strikes first by default. Lancers beat warriors, warriors beat archers, archers beat lancers.
- The privacy page opens over the game, without leaving it.
Version 0.24.0
Behind the scenes: a sandbox where we test the balance of fights. Nothing changes in play.
Version 0.23.0
Behind the scenes: tools to measure the balance of fights. Nothing changes in play.
Version 0.22.0
- Battles need a tablet, a laptop or a desktop, held sideways. On a phone you can still check your history, the leaderboard, the maps and your settings.
Version 0.21.0
Behind the scenes: tools to look after published maps and their reports. The Chronicle screen is wider.
Version 0.20.1
- The Maps page shows a dozen seed maps of each size and the players' maps first; seed maps are named by size and number ("Seed 101").
Version 0.20.0
- The Maps page: search every published map, open a map's page, and pick a map for your private match.
Version 0.19.0
- Maps count how often they are played and can be favourited; their pictures are the right way up.

Version 0.15.0
- Replays open over the game, with a big play button, a map-only view and every unit's portrait.
Version 0.14.0
- Music: a theme for the menus and battle tracks that follow the fight.
- Settings: separate levels for effects, voices and music.
Version 0.13.0
- Map sizes: Level 1 matches play on a small map, Level 2 on a medium one.
- A new match header: a bigger pause button and both players face to face.
Version 0.12.0
- Your troops' shouts are voiced, and the match's events have recorded sounds.
Version 0.11.0
- Fair play: rules against farming points, and a page that explains them. Every match that moves no points says why.
Version 0.10.0
- A fresh look: a cozy island on the title screen, open games as cards in the lobby, and the same buttons on every screen.
- Easier reading: a clearer typeface, larger text, and a Text size setting.
- On touch screens, a double tap no longer zooms the page.
Version 0.9.0
- A player who goes idle is warned, then loses the match (or leaves the room before it starts).
- Sounds for the match's events: an attack, a building done, a province lost…
Version 0.8.0
- Play with your fingers on a tablet: taps and gestures, a panel for the hand, and a tick to confirm before building or firing.
Version 0.7.0
- Replays: watch your matches again from your history, and share the link.
Version 0.6.0
- The leaderboard grows: your rank over time, the Top, every player's page, past seasons, and a page of its own.
Version 0.5.0

Version 0.3.0
- Match history: signed in, every finished match is kept with its result.
Version 0.2.8

- The keyboard works when the game is played on itch.io.
- A button to remove a belt.

- A gentler Easy bot for your first matches.
- You can zoom out further over the battlefield.
Version 0.2.3
- Menu buttons no longer flicker under the pointer, and the lobby's open games are easier to read.

- Private matches are safer: guessing codes is limited.
Version 0.2.1
Behind the scenes: server setup. Nothing changes in play.
